The Final Countdown

h1 Saturday, November 20th, 2004

Its either Sylvester or Taufik who will be crowned the first ever Singapore Idol. Hmmm.. strangely.. I hope it’ll be a clear winner. I am a supporter of Taufik. However, this wasn’t always the case.

I guess just like the rest of Singapore.. I feel that Taufik has done justice to the various genres throughout the competition.. I feel that he has improved the most and put in lots of effort each week. Which is why I feel he should win. Those and the fact that the guy CAN sing. Oh wait.. he can also dance.

Hmm.. lets see what Sly can do.. sing? ermm ok.. not bad but not great. Dance? hmmm.. apart from that “famous” stick-arm-out-and-wink-to-the-crowd.. I don’t think so! Show me some moves, man!!!

Actually, when the show started months ago.. I preferred Sylvester.. somehow.. I don’t know why exactly. I don’t think he can sing.. ermm well ok.. he is not a superb singer.. not idol calibre for sure. But he has that x-factor.. maybe its his beng-ness that makes him endearing. Oh drats.. I possess a soft spot for ah bengs! Yikes! However, as weeks past.. he still did not get eliminated.. I’m not saying I want him out of the competition as much as I wanted Jasmine Trias out of the American Idol competition when it was running then. However, it was at the expense of good singers. Sadly. Well.. perhaps the rest of Singapore also found him endearing despite his “bad boy” image.. which is why he is still surviving.

Ok.. now that he’s through to the finals.. I wonder.. do I want him to represent Singapore as an idol winner? How would he fair against powerful singers like Fantasia Barrino?

I won’t be surprised if he still makes it big in this region.. but.. singing chinese songs though.. I think he was not bad in that genre. Apart from that, naaah.

Singapore.. you decide..

Stress can make you fat.

Spring cleaning!!

h1 Thursday, November 4th, 2004

School’s out! Yes!! Well.. actually not for the teachers. Sigh! Oh well.. this is the time when we do a lot of cleaning up and getting ready for next year. Lots of work though.. but without the students around, it seems much more manageable! :)

Anyways, its close to deepavali and hari raya.. I am sure a lot of people are busy spring cleaning among the many other chores that needs to be done. I have not done mine yet! I just cannot get started. Maybe I am just lazy. Maybe I am tired. Maybe I just cannot be bothered. Am I procrastinating? To do or not to do… sigh.. I’ll think about it again tomorrow.. or perhaps the weekend. We’ll see. :)

On the other hand, I have been doing my cleaning up earnestly in school! Clearing up my table, files, notes etc.. arranging everything properly. This is the hazards of being a teacher. Throughout the year, you prepare countless amounts of work for the students.. you make thousands (ok I exaggerate) of copies for them.. and you always can’t seem to have enough copies.. so you make new copies.. and guess what? At the end of the year, you suddenly find stacks of duplicated notes and papers neatly tucked somewhere.

I have a confession to make. I have not been very environmentally friendly the last few days.. I have been dumping all the papers in the trash.. well it does go into the recycling bin.. but still.. I feel guilty for contributing to the destruction of the planet (ok I exaggerate) with the tremendous pile of papers that I have thrown out. Captain Planet will not be very happy with me.

*sings* Captain Planet, he’s our hero.. gonna take pollution down to zero..

Yes yes.. I know my cartoons :)

ANYWAYS…

I am going to end my entry here.

But before I do that, I just want to say that I miss my friends.. and I miss my students.. I hope that they are having a good holiday by staying out of trouble and earning money properly. There aren’t shortcuts to an easy life. You gotta work hard.

Alrighty.. thats all for now.. ciao everyone!
