Announcement / I see orange!
Thursday, June 15th, 2006
This is a typical sight in the Netherlands. The national flag and a bag hanging on the flag pole in front of a house.

This is apparently a tradition.. families would hang school bags on the pole when someone from the household have just passed their exams or graduated from school. Groovy eh!
And for this family, Jantje has just graduated.. congrats girl
It’s a simple but effective way of spreading news.. good news, that is! They do the same to announce the birth of a newborn, birthdays (the grander ones are for those hitting 50!), weddings and of course their support for the Dutch national soccer team!
——————————————–
With the World Cup going on.. everywhere we go.. we see ORANGE! Even *I* am not spared from the world cup fever.. I now have orange socks, orange banners, orange arm band, orange whistle and also an orange cap! Tsk tsk! There’s a match tomorrow.. I will probably be wearing some of the above!
