Announcement / I see orange!

h1 Thursday, June 15th, 2006

This is a typical sight in the Netherlands. The national flag and a bag hanging on the flag pole in front of a house.

Graduation

This is apparently a tradition.. families would hang school bags on the pole when someone from the household have just passed their exams or graduated from school. Groovy eh!

And for this family, Jantje has just graduated.. congrats girl :)

It’s a simple but effective way of spreading news.. good news, that is! They do the same to announce the birth of a newborn, birthdays (the grander ones are for those hitting 50!), weddings and of course their support for the Dutch national soccer team!

With the World Cup going on.. everywhere we go.. we see ORANGE! Even *I* am not spared from the world cup fever.. I now have orange socks, orange banners, orange arm band, orange whistle and also an orange cap! Tsk tsk! There’s a match tomorrow.. I will probably be wearing some of the above! :)

Amazing WWW

The online world works in a mysterious but amazing way for sure..

Firstly, that’s how I got to know my husband.. thank God for that.. some people don’t understand how it can work.. they don’t believe that it is even remotely possible.

Secondly, that’s how I met FRIENDS.. people that I am still in touch with till today.. even though I’ve not met all of them.. they’ve been with me through school years.. through good times.. bad times.. graduation.. one of them is a musician from down under who created a minus one version of a wedding song that I asked for.. I even introduce one of them to my best friend and they are happily married now.. again.. some people don’t understand how it can work.. they don’t believe that it is even remotely possible.

Thirdly, its a wonderful way to keep in touch with people from far away places! Yes its possible!

Lastly, its a great way to find friends whom you’ve lost touch with for years.. That’s how I found my secondary school classmates.. people I used to spend 4 years of my life with.. people who mattered so much in my life.. Two years ago, one of my classmates found me.. and we’ve been in touch since then.. I got reunited with about ten of them.. doctors, engineers, teachers, accountants, etc.. and then about a week ago.. I found 3 more.. my Indonesian friends who travelled to far away places right after the O level exams.. and apparently they are now back in Jakarta.. happily married and some even with children..

Amazing eh?
Like I said, the online world works in a mysterious but amazing way!

Greetings from a faraway land..

Its been ages since my last update.. tsk tsk me!

Work has kept me VERY occupied.. with the exams, HRCs to write, meet-the-parents sessions, BC planning (which didn’t get executed! Grr!), MF lessons, remedial.. i am just glad it’s over… for NOW.

Two people got married.. not to each other.. but yeah.. got married nevertheless :) Congrats to them!
- Ngee Hau and his bride looked happy in the company of each other.. hope they stay that way forever and ever..
- Wid and Khalid looked great.. she looked gorgeous and happy :) it was a beautiful wedding with a group of special people in their lives.. everyone braved the long distance (many people from the other side of the island, some from various countries and continents!) and roadblock (literally!) to get to the venue.. enjoyed the delicious food and super-yummy cake! I hope they will continue to brave whatever obstacles they might face in future together and come out of it all happier simply because they have each other.

And now that it’s all over.. i am far and away from it all.. enjoying the break..

Just arrived this morning.. the entire family came over to welcome us.. in the evening, we celebrated Sylvia’s birthday at Aunt Gretha’s place.. yummy food.. great company.. but cold weather.. it’s supposed to be summer!!

We’ve still got lots of people to meet and go out with.. looking forward to meeting Nad and Jan in Brussels next week.. and of course watching the WORLD CUP without having to stay up late! :)

It’s my brother’s birthday and we can’t be with him :( I hope he will stay strong and be happy.. we miss him dearly.

Okie dokie.. gotta run for now.. it’s Sunday and only 10.30am here.. I am already awake for the past 3 hours.. had breakfast and now just completed a post.. wow.. what a productive morning :P

Greetings to everyone..
With love from Jubbega..
