Exhausted but happy :)

h1 Thursday, August 31st, 2006

I’ve been terribly, terribly busy for the past 3 weeks.
Exhausted would be a “mild” word to describe how I feel.

Well at least the celebration is over. It might not have been perfect, some might not have liked it as much, but it’s ok.. it’s over. It was nice to hear from some of the teachers that they had a good time and that they appreciate all the work that we (the prefects, performers, SLs) have done. I just hope that they felt appreciated and honoured to be in this profession.

When the concert was over.. there were class parties to attend and many students (both current and ex) to talk to.

Thank you to my beloved form class, 4NA :) I had a wonderful time :)
Don’t forget to study hard for your exams next week though!

To 4NB, thank you for drawing me :)

To 4NC, thank you for the wishes.

To the 4TD girls, thank you for the cards.
To the 4TD boys, don’t forget to send me the picture!

To 4TE, thank you for inviting me. I felt appreciated and loved.

To my prefects, thank you for the T-shirt :) XXS some more! :)

It was overwhelming to see the many familiar faces who have left.. how they have all grown.. and that they still remember to come by and give their well-wishes. Even though it was difficult to find the teachers, they took the time to search for us just to wish us a “Happy Teachers’ Day”! One group especially stood out for me.. Rosli and gang.. walking around with a cardboard saying “SEARCHING FOR MDM REHANA“.. LOL.. He made me laugh, as always :)

To all the students who came by.. thank you.. it really made the day more special.

Presents are just secondary on a day like this.. it’s the thought that goes behind each little card and letter that means a huge deal to me. The smiles and hugs that we receive make the day extra special.

Even though this is just one day in the entire year, it makes all the nonsense and crap that we go through each day seem tolerable. Thank you kids. I had a good day.

Last Comic Standing

h1 Friday, August 11th, 2006

Charlie Chaplin once said,
“A day without laughter is a day wasted.”

I guess Josh Blue feels the same.

Josh who?

Well.. well.. let me introduce you to this amazing character.

This man has cerebral palsy and feels that his career options are pretty much limited to comedy and ermm.. yeah ok.. just comedy. So, because of that, he joined a competition to prove he has what it takes to make people laugh. In this competition, Last Comic Standing, (which is pretty much like the way American Idol works) he auditioned for it and went through various rounds of judging and voting before getting to the finals. The other comics were pretty hilarious too.. but I guess his disability makes him more endearing and funny to watch.

His jokes are as you would guess.. mainly just about his life.. things that we consider so trivial are actually challenges that he has to overcome on a daily basis. And when he tells his stories, you just can’t help but laugh.

With him being in the competition, it simply proves to others that despite your disabilities and short-comings, you can still pursue your dreams. For him, it is to stand in front of millions and be funny and be the best at it too! In my opinion, that just shows strength of character.

It makes me realise that for us, with hardly any disability to blame our less-than-extraordinary life on, we have a lot to learn. We should also not be too serious about things all the time.. laugh.. it’s good for us.. especially when we learn to laugh at our own silly quirks. Life just becomes more bearable. Sometimes, I see some of my students being so serious and worried about every little thing. It scares me. So young and yet so burdened by the troubles of the world.

Relax kids.. don’t get too caught up in trying to grow up too quickly.. enjoy life.. from time to time, laugh out loud.. I love it when people are just not afraid to laugh out loud.. without caring if they look ridiculous or not.. it’s infectious whether you believe it or not.. it will definitely put a smile on someone’s face.

Here’s a snippet of the winner of Last Comic Standing (Season 4).. the very funny Josh Blue. Enjoy!

Happy Birthday Singapore :)

Last year, it was the Sec 5s.
This year, the student leaders together with the idol finalists had their go at it.
They sang.. despite the rain.

The excos did their ushering duties.. probably for the last time.. they did good :)

Rusedi took charge of the parade :) Good job!

I saw familiar faces.. very happy to see them :)
Qixian was too busy trying to get the goody bag, which explains why he wasn’t on the pic! Tsk tsk! Haha!

Happy Birthday Singapore

It’s holiday tomorrow.. yay!

P.S : Don’t forget to vote for Jonathan and Hady tonight!! They should not be in the bottom three no more!!

A letter to my dear students..

h1 Saturday, August 5th, 2006

Dear kids..

I am worried.. worried because you are not.
The exams are around the corner. I am genuinely concern about how you will perform.
You show no fear.. no urgency.. no worry regarding your own results. Your future.

You have dreams and wishes.
You have high hopes and aspirations.
But when it’s time to work toward these goals.. you don’t even want to try.

When I ask if you are ready, you act like I am invading your rights.
You become defensive.. you act like I had NO RIGHT to ask you.. to be concern.

Only a handful have shown the desire to do well. Thank you for trying.. I am proud of you.
Especially those who did not do well during the mid-year exams. You have realised that it’s important to work hard.. to start early..

Remember kids..
you cannot cramp everything into the last few days to get the best results.
you cannot expect miracles to happen.
you cannot expect to pass if you don’t study.

So please.. don’t waste any more time. Pick up that book. Start reading. Start doing. Just start!

Sincerely,
Your teacher
