I hate goodbyes..

h1 Sunday, October 22nd, 2006

I said goodbye to my wonderful exco whom I will dearly missed, the annoying but lovable 4TD, the endearing 4TE, the sweet 4E girls who have been asking for extra lessons and of course the 5N kids.

The class of 2006

Thank goodness I didn’t have to give any speech this year. But that didn’t stop the tears from flowing. Haha! Karen and I sat with each other and cried! Again! haha! We are so hopeless when its time to try and be strong! We thought about our dear sec 5s and how they were.. how even Yong Cun was tearing up when he went on stage :) Those moments I miss them loads!

As I cried, I remember how they would always prepare tissues for me when I am about to give speeches. Haha.. yeaps I always cry when I have to say goodbye.

We have not seen each other for over a decade.

12 years ago, we said our goodbyes after our last papers together.. knowing that it’ll be a long time before we meet again.

We didn’t even see each other when we got our results months later.

She had gone to the US to further her education. We apparently wrote letters to each other for a short while. She did her Finance degree and then went on to work in Silicon Valley. She met the love of her life. After a while, they went back to Indonesia. They got married at the end of last year. She found me through another ex-classmate who had found me earlier. We texted each other when I was in Europe in June and promised to stay in touch. And thankfully she had to come to Singapore for a training.. otherwise, we’d probably not get to meet each other.

Since we haven’t seen each other for that long, I wondered as I waited for her.. would I be able to recognise her? Afterall, people change.

Not long afterward, she came walking towards us. My sister was there too. And instantly, I knew it was her. She could still tell us apart.

We sat and ate and talked about everyone in school. Everyone we could remember. We tried to recall their names.. how they looked like.. where they were especially because we didn’t know where the Indonesian students went after the O’s. She updated us on their whereabouts. Who got married. Who had kids. We laughed when we recalled the antics of our ex-classmates and even our teachers. We laughed like we were sixteen again.

I miss her. I remember how she used to visit me when I was in hospital. She bought me a giant fluffly crab soft toy, on behalf of the class. I still have that crab, I think. She hates peeling prawns and because the Home Economics teacher knew that, she made her peel plenty of prawns. Of course, I saved her. Because we were cooking partners. I peeled the prawns for her while she did the other stuff.

We also talked about the possibility of organising a reunion for the four classes.

By the end of the night, we said goodbyes. She reminded us to look her up when we go to Jakarta. She’ll try and hook us up with the other Indonesians we haven’t met. I am certainly looking forward to that.

I hope she will continue to be healthy and happy.

Till we meet again… Take care my friend.
